With over 250 members worldwide the European Snacks Association (ESA) is the voice of the savoury snack food industry and represents its members who make up the €12 billion market in Europe. The increasing importance of Brussels and the growing amount of legislation being driven from the EU, demands that ESA is appropriately represented with key stakeholders and other relevant organizations in the regulatory and policy making arena in Brussels.
ESA is creating a new and exciting role based in our Brussels office for a self-motivated, and enthusiastic: Scientific & Regulatory Affairs Director
The Role
The successful candidate will have a background in food science or technology with at least 2/3 years experience of working in the food industry preferably in a technical or regulatory environment.
Additional skills required would be:
- The ability to communicate and negotiate with a wide range of contacts
- The flexibility and eagerness to work in a busy, dynamic international environment
- Excellent oral and written English is essential. Fluency in French and other European languages would be an asset
- IT literacy
Please note that candidates without food industry experience will NOT be considered.

The European Snacks Association (ESA) represents the interests of manufacturers and service providers in the savoury snacks industry. The market for savoury snacks in the EU is estimated at around 12 billion euros and changing consumer lifestyles towards snacking continue to provide opportunities for further category growth.
The ESA secretariat has offices in both London and Brussels, where it is staffed by a small team of dedicated professionals.
The increasing importance of Brussels and the growing amount of legislation being driven from the EU, demands that ESA is appropriately represented with key stakeholders and other relevant organizations in the regulatory and policy making arena in Brussels. An exciting opportunity now exists for a public affairs and policy director based in Brussels who can further develop ESA’s activities in this arena.
The Role
- Monitoring regulatory and policy developments primarily at European level, but also recognising the impact of developments globally, that could be relevant for our sector.
- Representing the sector on relevant industry associations or public forums/platforms
- Building an effective and productive network of contacts across the EU institutions and relevant industry sectors and organisations.
- Liaising with members, preparing working group meetings, developing position papers
- Representing the interests of the members with the EU institutions
Key Skills Required
- A communications professional with a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience
- Excellent organisational and multi-tasking skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- A decision-maker and problem-solver
- Self-motivated and able to work on your own initiative
- Excellent written communications
- Media relations expertise
- Ability to deal with high-level business and government officials
- Fluent spoken and written English is essential – a second European language is an advantage
