  • consider appearance, function and safety when developing their proposals

Evaluating

  • talk about their ideas and how they might work in practice

  • understand the properties of materials, e.g. strength, flexibility, nutritional content
  • understand the qualities of materials, e.g. colour, texture, taste, smell
  • understand how the working characteristics of materials relate to the ways they are used

  • combine different materials and components for a particular purpose

  • relate the way things work to their intended purpose and users’ needs
  • investigate the strengths and weaknesses of products
  • comment critically on products and their applications

  • compare the effectiveness of a range of products - how well they are made and how well they meet their purpose

  • recognise hazards (to themselves and others) in their working environment
  • consider the risks that the hazards pose
