A RATIONALE FOR PORTION SIZES |
 |
The savoury snacks industry understands that it has a role to play in improving stakeholder confidence and acceptance of the portion concept. As portions are a key determinant of consumers’ intake of calories and other nutrients we take stakeholders’ concerns about portion sizes seriously.
The savoury snacks industry has a long history of providing nutrition information for snacks on a per portion basis of 25 g and for nuts on a per portion basis of 30 g. However during the past few months, we have engaged in a multi-stakeholder dialogue on portions and evaluated the rationale underpinning our portions recommendation.
As a result of these discussions and the latest consumer information we have decided to introduce an amendment to our portions rationale and move towards a single portion size of 30 g for snacks and nuts. This change reflects recent consumer research in major European markets.
